When it comes to the increasingly popular world of gambling, one gambling game that stakes quite a reputation is that of poker. Poker has been a popular casino game for quite a while now and shows no sign of ever stopping or even slowing down. Poker has gained such a popularity rush that there are now huge tournaments that take place all over the world, involving tons of money and only one victor emerging. In fact, the WSOP (World Series of Poker) even is held every year, pitting the best poker players against each other in an epic battle for the win.
One common mistake that is made by a lot of people when it comes to poker, is thinking that poker itself is just one, solitary game. Poker might have been one particular type of game way back when, but nowadays there are so many different variations of poker that have emerged and are actively played. Probably one of the most heard of and played variations of poker is Texas Hold-Em. Along with that, there are some pretty outrageous variations of poker that are completely unique in every way, such as Follow the Queen.
While the list of different poker variations can go on forever, listed below are probably four of the most popular variations that are actively played today; both physically and online:
Texas Hold-Em
As previously mentioned, Texas Hold-Em is by far one of the most beloved favorites in the poker world by man poker enthusiasts. Texas Hold-Em is probably the game you see on television or the game being played at the big tournament you heard about.
Most of the time, when a Texas Hold-Em match is played it is usually played with either a fixed limit or no limit at all. However, sometimes the game is played with a pot limit as well; but fixed limit and no limit Texas Hold-Em remain the most popular styles of play.
Omaha
Generally, most fans of Texas Hold-Em are fans or actively play the variation of poker known as Omaha poker. The main reason for this is because Omaha poker is very similar to Texas Hold-Em. Just like Texas Hold-Em, Omaha poker does have two different variations of play; Omaha High and Omaha High or Low.
However, there are two distinct differences that Omaha poker boasts dewapoker over Texas Hold-Em. In Texas Hold-Em, a player receives two hole cards, but with Omaha poker each player receives four hole cards. The second difference lies within how a player composes his or her hand. In Omaha poker, a player must combine two hole cards coupled with three of the community cards in order to make a five card hand.
Seven-Card Stud
Seven-Card Stud is one of those variations of poker that has been around for quite awhile. In fact, Seven Card Stud has been around long before Texas Hold-Em and used to hold the same popularity status as Texas Hold-Em but eventually the spotlight moved on. However, Seven-Card Stud is still extremely popular and is hosted in many different physical tournaments as well as in many online casinos.
In any given match of Seven-Card Stud, there are supposed to be anywhere between two to eight players. Each player is ultimately dealt seven cards; three cards that are to remain concealed, and four that are face up for everybody to see. There are five initial betting rounds, with each bet being made before each card is dealt. The entire goal of Seven-Card Stud is to form a decent hand using the seven cards you have been dealt.
